  • Forewords: In His Bed and After

“Mother… you have to let me do this sooner or later. You cannot lock me here in this mansion to rot forever and we both know that.”

Mother looked at me sternly from where she sat. Papers, documents and books; her work was strewn all over her table messing it in a jumbled disarray. After staring at me for some time, she went back to signing the papers.

This was already too much for me to take.

I strode up to her place then slammed my hand hard on the table. Kiosuke, the family butler who stood behind my mother’s chair cringed from the violent sound. My hand was in pain but I didn’t show it nor did I wince. This time, I had to show a point. I will not be swayed anymore nor will I be convinced.

The hand that was signing the documents stopped, then my mother directed her firm gaze towards me for the second time.

    “OK. You may go.”

Wait, did I hear her right?

I stood there, speechless. This sudden response was beyond my understanding because I was prepared to prove my point and even argue for it. Then all of a sudden she says yes? What changed her mind?

“Aren’t you going to leave? I said you may go. Do whatever you want. GO.” My mother waved her hand at me as if she was trying to get rid of a fly.

“Just like that? This got to have a catch.” I stared at her incredulously.

Finally, my mother stopped what she was doing and stood up from where she sat, placed her hands flat on the table and leveled her eyes to mine.

“Of course hime-chan… your mother doesn’t do things without a catch. You’ve been griping about this for three whole years ever since you’ve graduated from high school.” She gave off a sweet smile which turned into a devious look. Whenever mother used the hime-chan nickname, referring to me as her princess I suddenly get the goose bumps. I knew she was up to something.

    “Here. Take this.”

Mother held an envelope then gave it to me, which I curiously took. When I opened it, there were a few cash then a letter and transcript.

“I’m letting you go with 5 conditions.”

Mother raised her hand showing her five fingers right in front of my face that I had to back off to look at it properly. Then she started to count from one, using her index finger.

“One, you have 6 months to do whatever it is you like,”

“2 years.” I interrupted, starting the bargain.

    “9 months.” She raised it.

“12 months.” I said with finality in my voice.

“Fine, one year it is then. It also gives you enough time to graduate.” Her voice had this calculating tone then continued, “Two, you have to enroll in that school specifically to finish your studies.” She pointed at the paper I held in my hand where my transcript was attached, “Three, you will be stripped off from all of your credit cards and have to live with only basic necessities coming from that cash provided. Four, you cannot contact me or come back to this house within that one year given to you, Kioske would come pick you up immediately after your graduation. Five, if you try to contact me in any way it means you’re going back and you have to succeed the company and undergo training in Australia pronto.”

There was a pause as I thought how real these conditions were and how much I could taste my freedom. I was doing this to prolong my stay in Japan and delay my succession and training over the company that my ancestors had left for my family. Eventually I knew I was going to seat where my mother is sitting right now or I would even get to marry someone that would be matched up by my mother and relatives.

I needed this whole year for myself.

If only father would have lived longer maybe my life would have taken a different path. Then again this is not the time to think about the past. My future is bright, the excitement of freedom. Suddenly I felt like I was glowing.

“So do we agree on these terms? It’s either these or none at all.” My mother bored her eyes into mine, daring me to take it.

“You will not have me followed?” I raised an eyebrow at her.

“Are you kidding me? Of course you will be!” My mother gave a sinister laugh.

“Then what kind of freedom would this be?” I exclaimed exasperatedly.

“You will be followed only to be watched. Don’t worry, I wouldn’t interfere in that whole year you want for yourself. As I have told you before… you can do whatever it is you like. Be knocked up or whatever as long as you go back to me in one piece and alive. You’re still my daughter but I would also want you to have a taste of real life whatever it has stored for you.” She pinched my cheek, patted it then resumed on her sit to sign those documents.

I stood there motionless that I finally have her blessing.

“What are you still standing there? Go… before I change my mind.” She said without looking up from her work.

I scurried out of her office and away from her presence almost stumbling to get my bearings and leave the mansion as fast as I could.

“How many days do you think she would last? I’m betting she won’t pass by three.” Mrs. Taiyo Inoue turned around to look at me as I continued to stare at the closed door of the office.

“I’m not sure about that madam… she’s too much like you.” I answered her honestly.

“I really hoped she was more like her father.” She gently shook her head with an amused smile then resumed her work.

This made me wonder if she ever had another daughter, what would have become to this household. Having to deal with two stubborn Inoue women, it was hard to imagine adding another one.

    Notes from the Author:
Starting off from the One Shot – In His Bed and After, this fic tells you more about how everything came together BEFORE the YaMaoPi happens and also the AFTER.

This is all for the YaMaoPi fans out there. It is my very first chaptered fic for Yamapi, pairing him up with one of my favorite characters, Mao. I usually see Mao with Toma but I guess it’s time to see how this story unfolds. Please bear with me on this fic, for I don’t know how long or short this would be. Your comments would help me out to continue on with this story as well.

Lastly… thank you guys for inspiring me to do this. Wish me luck!!!
